fat transfer treatment The skin of a young face is similar to that of a ripe grape—firm, supple and full of moisture. As your skin ages, however, the production of collagen and elastin will begin to slow as early as your mid to late twenties, hindering your skin’s ability to rebound and maintain its smooth surface. By the time you reach your forties, an average of twenty percent of the skin’s collagen has been lost and will continue to decrease by an estimated one percent each year. Combined with factors like sun exposure, lifestyle choices and gravity, it’s inevitable that as time passes your skin will resemble less of a luscious grape and more of a saggy, wrinkled raisin.

Your face is particularly vulnerable to the effects of aging. The gradual loss of volume in facial tissue can contribute to loose skin, wrinkles and the sunken, skeletal appearance of areas around your eyes and cheeks. While there are a handful of preventative measures you can take to preserve the youthful look and feel of your skin, very few methods actually work to restore your face’s structure and loss of volume from within. Anti-aging efforts can be expensive, involve invasive surgery or require constant maintenance to achieve or maintain your desired results. That’s where ALMI™ treatments set themselves apart.

What is ALMI™?

According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), fat transfer procedures saw just over a twenty-two percent increase in 2017, with over 54,000 patients undergoing the procedure. It’s growing popularity can be attributed to the fact that it is a safer and longer-lasting alternative to invasive skincare treatments, surgeries or traditional fillers.  ALMI™ (Autologous Lipocyte Micronized Injection) is a non-invasive fat transfer technique that utilizes your body’s own supply of fat, regenerative cells, and sometimes platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to restore volume to your skin and improve its overall texture and tone.

In an ALMI™ treatment for your face, liposuction is performed first to collect autologous tissue from your body and is then strategically injected into the targeted areas of your skin. Unlike many synthetic fillers, ALMI™ treatments are 100 percent natural and work instantly to replenish the volume and shape of your face. The results can also last up to several years. The introduction of new fat, cells, and PRP will stimulate the production collagen and elastin in your skin, restoring the internal structure. It can even be used to plump and reshape thin, aging lips. Your skin will become fuller, smoother, and have the indistinguishable glow of healthy skin in as little as one treatment.

ALMI™ treatments for the face can reverse and restore:

  • Facial creases
  • Wrinkles
  • Skin texture
  • Hollowed cheeks
  • Sunken eyes
  • Elasticity
  • Structure
  • Acne scars
  • Thin lips
  • Jawline definition

How Does ALMI™ Work?

ALMI™ treatments can be performed on an outpatient basis at Desert Cosmetic and Vein Centre, and typically will take no longer than an hour to complete. Using a local anesthetic to minimize discomfort, Dr. Fisher will first extract the lipocyte, or fatty cells, through a liposuction procedure. The fat is most commonly removed from areas of the body that already have fat stores readily available for harvesting, such as the abdomen, side flanks, thighs or buttocks. Once the donor tissue has been collected, unwanted materials are processed and removed from the viable fat. Fat is then micronized, or liquefied, to be added back into the desired areas of the face or lips.

Once in liquid form, Dr. Fisher will inject the viable fat and regenerative tissue beneath your skin’s surface, targeting areas with significant volume loss and wrinkles. ALMI™ face treatments will immediately take effect, filling in lines and wrinkles and replenishing areas that have been depleted of volume over time. The procedure will be complete once Dr. Fisher has achieved your desired outcome.

As with traditional injectable fillers, some bruising, swelling or redness may occur at the site of the liposuction or injections immediately following your ALMI™ procedure. However, there is virtually no downtime required for recovery. Post-procedure instructions will be provided by Dr. Fisher to ensure the most successful results. However, you can immediately return to your daily activities without having to worry about allergic reactions or obvious surgical scars that can come with other anti-aging procedures.

The Benefits of ALMI™ Treatments

The benefits of receiving a treatment that is “all-me” can be seen in the results. Not only do ALMI™ treatments work to instantly smooth lines and restore volume, but they also continue to improve the appearance of your face for several years. By introducing your own biological material back into your skin, the production of collagen and elastin is naturally stimulated as your body accepts the new cells. Unlike dermal fillers, ALMI™ does more than just fill facial tissue until your next treatment. Your skin will continue to repair itself on a cellular level, making additional treatments and touch-ups rare. ALMI™ doesn’t just address current symptoms of aging on your face; it works continuously to reverse it.

Patients who receive ALMI™ treatments for their face can also choose to have Dr. Fisher treat additional spots on the body, such as the back of their hands, within the same procedure. Using ALMI™ for treating multiple areas allows for more consistent results, so you’re not pairing a young, supple face with aging hands. ALMI™ treatments can be performed on all skin types and tones and are an ideal solution for anyone in good health who struggles with the appearance of their skin.
